UtilityPal’s sub-meters provide a reliable, prepaid metering solution that empowers property owners and tenants to manage utility consumption easily and transparently. Here’s how it works:
💡 Tenants or residents purchase prepaid tokens through various retail outlets or by EFT (electronic funds transfer). 💡 These tokens are then used to load credit onto the sub-meter, enabling consumption. 💡 UtilityPal collects the funds and ensures that the revenue is securely and efficiently repaid to the property owner on a monthly basis via EFT.
This seamless process ensures accurate consumption-based billing and timely payments to property owners.
Simply ask your trusted local electrician or plumber to install the meter(s) for you. Our meters are readily available through our online store or from plumbing and electrical wholesalers across South Africa. Once installed, email us at support@utilitypal.co.za to register and activate your meter(s) for hassle-free, reliable utility management.

Prepaid tokens can be bought anywhere from banking applications (Absa,Standard Bank, FNB, Capitec & Nedbank), retail outlets (Pick N Pay, Checkers, Spar to name a few) & Petrol Stations to ATM's. Water & Gas can also be bought online via banking applications under buy and then "Electricity" insert your water or gas meter number and buy for the desired amount.
The easiest way to buy a prepaid token is through your bank’s mobile banking app. Simply:
1️⃣ Open your banking app and look for the “Buy” or “Prepaid” section. 2️⃣ Select “Electricity” (the same process applies for water and gas, too!). 3️⃣ Enter your meter number and choose the desired amount. 4️⃣ Complete the payment and you’re good to go!
UtilityPal recommends that landlords or property owners set the same tariff as what the local supply authority would bill the premises directly, ensuring fair and transparent billing for tenants. It’s important to also consider whether the tenant should be on a domestic or commercial rate.
